Teaching Philosophy |
I am a pop and jazz singer by profession, with many years of classical and traditional training. This emphasis on strength and vocal agility has given me tremendous “chops” and the ability to sing anything I want. I teach a method, which develops and exercises the entire voice; chest, middle (mix) and head, and focuses on issues of articulation and breath support. My students come from musical theatre, pop, rock, and jazz backgrounds and benefit tremendously from this work. I am well versed in Meisner technique, which assists the singer in becoming more personally related to the text. I break down lyrics with my students to focus on objective, actions and emotional expression.
Professionally, I have sung in all types of environments, and understand the demands and reality of working in restaurants, cabarets or rock clubs. I work carefully with my students to help them not over sing, or stress out during performance, and to create the most beautiful sound they are capable of.
I teach sight singing, theory and musicanship and work with singer’s who need to focus on the voice as an instrument, thereby training them to better manifest their musical vision.
