Biography

Kevin Michael Murphy holds a Master's in Vocal Performance (Musical Theater) from NYU Steinhardt, and a Bachelor of Music in Music Theater from James Madison University. Kevin has taught at both JMU and NYU, and currently teaches out of his studio in Astoria. A member of Actor's Equity, Kevin's most recent credits include "Max and the Truffle Pig" and "With Glee" at the New York Musical Theater Festival, and working with Stephen Schwartz on his new musical, "Snapshots," at Seaside Music Theater.

Kevin currently has students on Broadway, on National tours, and working at various regional theaters.

Teaching Philosophy

I teach all levels, actors, dancers, singer/songwriters, people looking to improve their singing in the car or the shower. It is my belief that the partnership between vocal technique and dramatic intent is essential to the success of any singer/actor. I help my students to free up their voices so that they may have access to their entire instrument. With an emphasis on bringing the lightness of top voice singing down, I help my students strengthen their middle voice (or mix), while finding a balance between air flow and resonance.
