Teaching Philosophy |
I am a technical voice teacher and musical audition/performance coach specializing in the training and use of the Contemporary Commercial Music Voice and Musical Theater Voice, including "Mixed Belt" and "Super Belt” Techniques at all levels.
Students represented on Broadway, Off Broadway, National and International Tours including: Curtains, Pirate Queen, Sweet Charity, Avenue Q, Wicked, Hairspray, Fosse, CHICAGO, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Mamma Mia, Man of La Mancha, Guys and Dolls, ...Forum, The Life, Miss Saigon, Naked Boys Singing.
Students range from beginners, at university level, to well known, working professionals in Musical Theater, Cabaret, Concerts, and Pop Music. High School and Pre College level students accepted by audition only.
I also have a voice teaching associate, Lisa Hogan, whom I can recommend highly if our schedules do not match. Please visit the website for more detailed information.
In a contemporary commercial music technique we work on: The goal of this work is to unlock the natural beauty of YOUR voice, NOT to get you to imitate someone else's sound. You sounding like YOU will always be more appealing and captivating than anything else.
Then it's time to work on your interpretation of the song using the emotional and psychological information that the composer has written within the music itself, including and also BELOW the vocal line. In that way your performance will always be YOUR OWN, based upon your natural, emotional responses to the musical information and word specificity that we will discover together. We will also work on your identification of objectives, tactics, point of view, and actions in each song, as a monologue.
